The glow of the Dolomites in Val Gardena

Autumn is the best season to experience a fascinating natural phenomenon: the unique glow of the Dolomites, which are best experienced during a sunset hike.

As an eventful autumn day draws to a close and the sun begins to sink below the horizon, the UNESCO World Heritage Dolomites are the stage for a colourful natural spectacle. As the sun sets in the valley, the striking peaks, rock pinnacles and rock faces of the Dolomite massifs change colour for a short time, glowing like hot embers in orange-pink, fiery red or violet until sunset.

This special Dolomite glow, a unique phenomenon that takes place in the "Pale Mountains," is called "Enrosadira" in Ladin and lends autumn evenings a magical atmosphere. In the Dolomites Region Val Gardena, the "burning mountains" become particularly impressive from mid-September. This coincides with the larches turning a shade of rich yellow and the long-range views becoming clearer as a result of the autumn air.

For the most scenic views and photo opportunities, enjoy the guided sunset hikes that run from 13 September to 4 November. They are run by either Stevia (every Tuesday) or Seurasas (every Thursday).

Glowing rocks, golden larch trees and clear air: the unique autumn spectacle can also be enjoyed with a delicious Aperitivo Lungo at the Seiser Alm high plateau. For an extra special experience, enjoy this fascinating evening spectacle with a fine glass of South Tyrolean wine in hand.
